Rose of Sharon

Hibiscus syriacus

Description

  • Showy, large flowers bloom in summer on this vase-shaped very small tree or large shrub. There are varieties with flowers in white, pink, purple, and blue. Most have a dark pink center that contrasts with the petals.
  • The leaves are bright green during the growing season and are attractively toothed. The leaves drop in the fall, without much fall color.
  • You can grow this tree with a single trunk tree or allow it to have several trunks. The single trunk form will grow tall faster than multi trunk trees.
  • The Rose of Sharon grows best with moderate water and blooms most in full sun.
