Japanese Snowbell

Styrax japonicus

Description

  • Delicate, white flowers decorate the Japanese Snowbell tree in the spring. The flowers dangle from the horizontal branches below the bright green leaves. The flowers are particularly attractive when viewed from below. Planting near a walkway or patio will allow you to enjoy the flowers up close.
  • The Japanese Snowbell tree is a very small tree that may be single trunk, or multi-trunk. It will need some easy pruning every year to keep the trunk bare or it will grow more like a big shrub.
  • This tree needs a location where it will receive moderate water in the summer. It may survive in a "WaterWise" landscape, but it will not thrive.
  • The flowers are followed by interesting, white seeds that are not messy.
  • In the fall, the tree drops its leaves without any fall color.
