Pineapple Guava

Feijoa sellowiana

Description

  • Pineapple Guava is a large shrub which can be pruned as a single or multi-trunk small tree. You can buy either single trunk (standard) or multi-trunk plants at the nursery.
  • Eye-catching flowers or pink and white grace this tree in late spring to summer. Small, green fruits follow the flowers. Both fruit and flowers are edible.
  • The foliage is evergreen with light green leaves year round that contrast with darker green of nearby plants.
  • Pineapple Guava trees usually have dense canopy and a neat appearance. They look best if allowed to grow naturally without shearing. So don't plan to shear this to keep it a smaller size. Because of the medium sized leaves, it will look ragged if sheared because many leaves will be cut.
  • The pineapple guava can give a tropical feel to a garden and it is adapted to low or medium irrigation so is well suited to "Water Wise" gardens as well as traditional plantings. It is also heat tolerant so can cope with being planted near paving or on the hot side of the house.
