Prairifire Crabapple

Malus ‘Prairifire’

Prairifire Crabapple

This small, spreading tree has showy, dark pink flowers in the spring. The leaves start maroon in the spring and by summer show more dark green with maroon. Small, decorative dark red crab apples follow.  They look a lot like small, dark cherries. They will hang on the tree past when the leaves drop in the fall. The fruit is dry and mealy, not gooey and messy and the birds will generally remove it in the winter.
