Eastern Redbud

Cercis canadensis

Eastern Redbud

An small, umbrella-shaped tree with hot pink flowers in the spring. The large leaves are heart shaped and flutter in the breeze. The leaves develop fall colors that are attractive when seen close, but not always showy when seen from a distance. Often develops flat-seed pods in the fall that look like very flat snow peas. They may stay on the tree into winter.

Simple pruning will encourage this tree to branch above head height, if left un-pruned it may branch lower.
