The Chinese Fringe Tree is an unusual, small deciduous tree that is covered with white flowers in the spring. The small, flowers look a bit like fringe and last for a week or two. After this beautiful display, the tree puts on its summer coat of green leaves which last until late fall when the turn tan and drop.
This is one of those trees that is either male or female, or occasionally mixed. The male trees produce pollen for a couple of weeks, while the females make small fruits. They are not gooey or staining on pavement, but they may sprout in landscape areas.
